Kannada Cinema To Launch Its First Ever Lesbian Film?

The Kannada film industry is all set to launch its very first lesbian film. The latest film entitled 141 will be releasing this week.

Director Bhavaji, a young filmmaker has showcased the subject of lesbianism in the film despite the threats from the fringe groups. The Kannada film industry has engaged in experimenting interesting subjects and escalates to a new level.

141 is slated to release on September 11, regardless of the lack of support from the Censor Board and the film fraternity. It will be dubbed in both Tamil and Telugu and will be release in Tamil Nadu, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh on September 18. Interestingly, they have been lying in the pipes for quite too long since the Regional Censor Board has refused to clear its certificate.

Until now, the makers were not allowed to use posters extensively for the promotion of the film. The director only aims to expose how the culture and the government, who are against lesbianism, has gained acceptance somewhere. Bhavaji adds that his film, which he also produced, does not have any scenes that will make the viewers uncomfortable, considering that they have been given an A certificate. The film is a story of two women who fell for each other and how they face exasperation from the society.

Bhavaji revealed that the film was ready by 2013 but neither the Regional Censor Board nor the Karnataka Film Chambers of Commerce appreciated his work. Now, he is facing threats from the fringe group asking him not to release the film. Bhavaji will ask for protection if they insisted to oppose to the release of the film.

141 was shot in Bengaluru, Mangaluru, Hyderabad, Udupi and Shivamogga for over 30-days only. Praveen Olivier, who is associated with award-winning music director  'A R Rahman', has scored the film’s music.
