Opposition to the hydrocarbon extraction schemes has been stepping forward to the next level. People in the Pudhukottai district have been protesting against the hydrocarbon extraction project in Neduvasal, which will spoil the fertility of the land and water resources. While many of the countries that have involved in the projects are suffering from the side effects, some of the countries have been working on this project in remote areas in the nonresidential and nonagricultural lands. As the agricultural lands in Neduvaasal are targeted for the project, the people oppose it. Now, they had shuttered all the shops in Pudhukottai to show their disagreement fro this project. Pudhukottai Periya Kadai Veedhi, which is the busiest area in the city looks calm, as all the shops are closed.
