Madras High court’s Madurai bench ordered the state government to formulate a new rule to destroy the Mesquite (Seemai Karuvelam) trees. The state government should bring in a new law to destroy the Mesquite within two months, orders the High Court. Mesquite’s roots go deep in the ground and suck the groundwater and create water scarcity. In Kerala, the government has banned the planting of mesquite and uprooted the trees all over Kerala. It is also taking necessary checks to stop the growth of the Mesquite, which spreads widely in a short period. If the TN government didn’t take essential steps in destroying these trees, then the water scarcity issues might get doubled and the entire state will become a desert.
