. Vijay does the lead role in the movie. The movie encountered innumerous hassles before release. The movie hit the silver screens on Diwali. Even after the release of the movie, it is continuing to encounter issues. A complaint has been field in Madurai Police station to take action against Vijay. The movie which released on Diwali has had good reception amidst controversies. The movie has been directed by Atlee. There is the GST, digital India and demonetization issue being mentioned in the movie.
The Tamil Nadu BJP political party opposed the movie saying that it proves to be a mockery of plans implemented by the government. Thus, the issue grew to huge proportions. At the same time, there were voices in support of the movie. The controversy grew to the national level. There is now a solution to the problems. Now, there is a new issue for the movie. A complaint petition has been filed against Mersal in Madurai Anna Nagar police station. The petition mentioned that there are controversial scenes about temples in the movie. The petition has claimed that action should be initiated against Vijay for the controversial scenes.
