Thoothukudi had been in the talks for a few months for the severe Sterlite protest and the following gunshot. Sterlite Copper Factory run by Vedanta Limited had been troubling the lives of the people in the area, complained the people and they had been protesting for years. A month back, on the 100th day of the silent protest, violence burst out and 13 people were killed in the police firing. Following a heavy opposition, the government passed a GO and closed the factory. Now, the Sterlite management submitted a petition at the Madurai Court. In that statement, they request for the restoration of the power supply, as due to the lack of maintenance and no power supply, the sulphuric acid in the plant started leaking. Due to the leakages in the pipe flanges, they couldn’t arrest it without the human resources and electricity, stated the management. If it is not arrested, then the sulphuric acid would create considerable damages to the lives of the people, stated the Sterlite Management. When the management says that the situation turns worse, the district collector Sandeep Nanthuri stated that everything is under control and also requested the people not to worry. People are now confused!
