Dayanidhi Maran and his brother Kalanithi Maran were charged for using the BSNL telephone exchange illegally. It was said that during 2004 t0 2006, when Dayanidhi was the Telecom Minister, he installed private telephone exchanges at his residences in Chennai and used it for Sun Networks. It was said that he caused a loss of Rs. 1.78 crore to BSNL Chennai and MTNL Delhi. 764 telecom lines were installed at his Boat Club and Gopalapuram residences. Former General Manager of BSNL K Brahmanathan, MP Velusamy, former Deputy General Manager, Gauthaman, Personal Secretary of Dayanidhi and the Sun TV officials were also accused in this scam. But, the Maran brothers’ counsel argued that they have no connection with the scam and are innocent. The judge Natarajan dismissed the case today as there is no prima facie evidence to prove their scam.
