Hindi actor Aamir Khan has said that he was asked to take the position of Rajini in the movie. Aamir Khan gave an interview regarding the development. I am a big fan of Shankar and Rajini.

As soon as director Shankar decided to direct the movie director Shankar asked me to do the lead role in the movie. Since the health did not cooperate, Rajini recommended Aamir Khan for the role. Not alone that, Rajini contacted me over phone and asked me to act in the movie. The story of 2.0 is superb. But still, when I think about the movie, Rajini comes before my eyes. I could not see myself in the role done by Rajini. So, I refused to do role in the movie. I said that only Rajinikanth could do role in the movie. I have seen the movie Enthiran. I liked the movie very much. Now, the movie starring Rajini would sure turn out to be a huge hit in all the languages. The statement by Aamir Khan reveals the attachment he has for Rajini.
