Tamil And Telugu Cine Fraternity To Go On Strike From November

There have been a number of issues surrounding the cinema field of late. The GST tax was levied on movies from the month of July onwards. For the tickets sold at less than Rs 100 an 18 percent tax, and for tickets being sold for more than 100 the GST was more than 28 percent. So, in multiplex theater tickets sold for Rs 120 have been sold for Rs 153 including the GST. The Tamil Nadu government levied 8 percent tax, the tickets being sold for Rs 153 are being sold for Rs 165. The Telugu cine people feel that due to the GST the number of people turning up at theaters has dwindled.

So, as a step against the GST they are to indulge in strike from the month of November. The shooting schedules and the other schedules are to be halted. It is being reported that Tamil cine fraternity is also supporting the move. It would be seen soon whether the Kannada and Malayalam cine people would join the strike. It is to be noted that the PVR and INOX theaters in Tamil Nadu have already been shut. The movie Mersal was not released in these theaters. Since they have theaters across India, if they agree to the entertainment tax, the other states would also levy entertainment tax. So, they have shut the theaters.
