Following the complaints by the Producers’ Council and other associations related to the cinema industry that the entertainment tax by the TN government might result in the high ticket price, the TN government issued the ticket rates to be followed in the TN cinema theaters.
Theaters in the Municipal corporation should collect a minimum of Rs. 15 for A/C and Rs. 10 for Non A/C and the maximum amount should be Rs. 62.5 for A/C and for Non A/C it should be 37.5.
In Chennai, the maximum ticket price should be Rs. 160 for multiplex and the A/C theaters and for Non A/C theaters it should be Rs. 120. Other than Chennai city the maximum ticket price in the A/C Theaters should be Rs. 140 and the Non A/C theaters should be Rs. 100.
But, these are the basic ticket fares and doesn’t include any GST and entertainment tax. So, Final Ticket Price in Chennai Multiplex is Base price Rs. 160 + GST @ 28% = 44.80; TMC+GST = 1.28; Total = 206.08; Plus Internet handling charges = 35.40; Total = 241.48.
