Following the police attack on the protesters, 12 public were killed in Thoothukudi, while they were protesting against the Sterlite factory. A petition had been file in Delhi High Court that a committee should be formed by the Human Rights Commission regarding the gunfire.

Vaiko stated that the Thoothukudi people are angry with the government and the police. He also said that the cops killed the people, who saved them. He also stated that it is atrocious to ban the internet in three districts.
