Director Kuzhanthai Velappan stated, "Yakkai is a love story revolving around Kathir (Kreshna) and Kavitha (Swathi). During this season of horror films, it'll be a romantic treat. It is a college love story shot mostly inside the campus while few scenes were shot in Ooty, Coimbatore, and Kothagiri.
