The British movie 71 hit the screens in 2014. The movie is a period film with action scenes in it. The movie’s plot happens in Northern Ireland. Gregory Burke has done the screenplay for the movie. There are few other actors playing the soldiers in the movie. The movie is about a British Army Man Gary, who is lost amidst a riot in Belfast. The riot happens during the peak of ‘The Troubles’ in 1971. The Catholics and the Protestants create riots in the streets of Belfast, which is situated in Northern Ireland. The movie revolves around Gary, the lost soldier in the streets of Belfast. The Protestants and political coalitions try to get hold of him for political gain.

Plot: Jack O’Connell plays the British soldier Gary in the movie. He has to meander his way to safety after his troop inadvertently ditches him amidst a clash in the city of Belfast. The movie 71 is the director’s debutant feature film. But, he has achieved his end by giving a thriller war movie. The plot seems to waver around, and the movie features protagonists and villains on both the British and Irish front. The decade of 1970's add interest to the movie’s plot. But, the movie wants to maintain suspense so much so that scrutiny into details is lost. There are villains both in British and Irish troops during the clash between the troops. It is not easy to picture such a complex idea in a movie too short. Good and the bad are prevalent everywhere in a fight. The director has tried to bring the message forward only to tire the audiences. The actor in Jack O’Connell is simply superb. He gains the concern of the audiences throughout the bloody scenes in the movie. If Jack O’Connell continues with such wonderful outputs, he is likely to be one among the best actors in the world. The approach by the director makes the movie look like a documentary.

Verdict: ’71' is the best documentary movie for audiences who love to explore the war-torn period of 1971.
