Plot

Belle Walker and her family move to a new house in Amityville, in order to help save money to deal with her comatose twin James healthcare expenses. However, when a string of mysterious phenomena starts occurring in the house including the suspicious recovery of her brother, Belle soon discovers that their new home has a creepy history behind it, and things are about to take an even creepier and terrifying turn for all of them.

Analysis

Set within the Amityville story franchise, Amityville: The Awakening is an entertaining film that fans of the series would find themselves committing to watching. It's not the most scary movie, and there's a significant deficit in any actual horror throughout the film. It's a fresh take on an otherwise interesting and exciting plotline that's been around for a while and played with in multiple movies of the franchise, and although it's not particularly impressive as a horror flick, visually it's a good movie. The set designs are impressive, the acting is well done and consistent, and the VFX adds to one of the engaging factors of the movie. It's a rewarding watch for fans of the franchise.

Verdict

The movie isn't the greatest horror flick around but it has a fresh, engaging plotline which seems to be the only thing going for it. The cinematography is fine, the cast performs pretty well and it would surely appeal to fans of the Amityville franchise.
