Plot 

The film’s protagonist is Paul, a journalist, played by Brenton Thwaites. Paul had a wonderful marriage and a bright career ahead of him, but it all changed after he was sent to cover the war in Afghanistan. When Paul returns, he suffers from the after-effects of being in such a dangerous and volatile situation. His marriage has been unstable, and his wife leaves, and thus Paul starts losing hope and questioning his faith. It also affects his work because he is in charge of the religious column in the newspaper. While Paul is going through these ordeals, a man claiming to be God appears before him. After much deliberation, Paul decides to interview the man claiming to be God, played by David Strathairn. The film follows three interviews which take place between Paul and God, in which a lot of important questions were asked and a few were answered.   

Star Performance 

Brenton Thwaites gives an exceptional performance. He displays the struggles of the trauma of war and of trying to revive a failing marriage. David Strathairn also gives an excellent performance as a calm and serene God.  

Analysis 

The film accurately represents how a person in distress begins to question the existence of God. The film also portrays the various questions a person would want to ask God.

What’s There?

• A heartfelt conversation between God and a person questioning his faith and God

• The film answers some questions regarding God and human existence

• Stellar performances by Brenton Thwaites and David Strathairn

What’s Not There?

• The film leaves many of the questions put up by Paul unanswered as God avoids answering most of the questions. 

• The film mostly focuses on the conversation between Paul and God, and thus, some parts of the film feel a bit dull and boring. 

Verdict

“An Interview With God” is an accurate representation of the questions that arise in the mind of individuals when they lose their faith in God’s existence. The film puts up these questions to God and answers some basic questions about God and the purpose of human existence. The film would be a great watch for drama genre enthusiasts.
