The movie is based on a real-life scam in which a hoax call takes a heavy toll on the worker of a fast food restaurant. Ann Dowd bagged the best-supporting-actress award for her role in the movie. The plot opens up with the announcement that nothing in the film is an exaggeration. Sandra is the owner of a fast food restaurant. Becky, the worker, is not in good terms with the owner.Â
One fine day, a call arrives. The caller claims to be a police officer and slaps charges on Becky for ‘stealing’ money from a customer. Becky is detained, and the rest of the movie shows the tiny lines of demarcation between shrewd thought and crookedness. Ann Dowd does the tired restaurant manager. Dreama Walker does the worker, and Pat Healy does the caller. The villain Pat Healy captures the attention as he does the commonplace criminal who can mar a person’s life, which is far worse than scarring anybody physically.Â
There are some minor roles that add credibility to the movie. Becky’s character draws sympathy due to the perfect villainess meted out. Again, the villainous in Pat Healy’s character could cause hatred for him among the audiences. But, how he reacts when everything ends up against him is the hallmark of the movie.Â
The movie ‘Compliance’ is surely out of the ordinary. It explained real life happenings when bosses received calls claiming that one among the workers was a thief. And, what could any manager do other than proceed with compliance? It is an unusual movie worth watching.
