Plot :

Dunkirk is a World War II film by Christopher Nolan which outlines the story of a French beach and harbor where the associated soldiers were caught in a vicious battle and had no escape. It is a straight forward movie, and is not a film for a rom-com moviegoer. If you are looking for a fun action packed movie, then there are other alternatives.

Analysis :

Loved by audience, this has been nominated for various awards starting with eight nomination categories at the 23rd Critics’ Choice and winning one award for Best Editing. Critics have called it Nolan’s best work till date.

Star performance :

Nolan decided to cast young and unknown actors. He was very inflexible with the fact that he wanted his entire cast to be British. Harry Styles is the part of the cast and must have left many people to expect something worst, but the former has turned out to be acceptable leaving no surprise to Christopher.

What’s there?

1. Nolan has always been a director who puts in a lot of efforts into directing his films.

2. He doesn’t portray war as a heroic measure of victory, instead showcases it as a game of survival.

What’s not there?

1. Having made such a great movie there’s no room for judgment on what’s not there, but Nolan has tried making the audience focus on each character in the film and not on any main character.

2. In war films, the plot revolves around few soldiers taking the center or the lead, Dunkirk has concentrated on the story of ‘Dunkirk’ and not what the soldiers feel.

Verdict :

The first reaction of the audience after watching the film has stated that Nolan is on top of his game in the genre. The film has been consistent from the start to the end and has had a significant impact on the audience. It has been a war film with no victory but just about the struggle for survival.
