Plot: Tommy Carter’s life is almost jeopardized following a car accident due to drunken driving. It takes him years to come back to form. He turns to a spiritualist and therapist. He writes a book about what happened to him. Angel Sanchez, a mentally disturbed man, stumbles on the work. Now, Angel is Tommy’s client. Tommy needs to take up the clientele as he needs to provide financial assistance to his brother Ben. But, Angel does not stop with hiring Carter as his coach and he goes way beyond his limits. Forest Whitaker metes out harsh treatment to Carter such that he ultimately confesses to doing unrelated crimes.
The movie’s plot is impressive in that it is a psychological thriller merging into an outlandish horror movie. But, the adventure seems to lack a course and actor Forest Whitaker finds himself ditched by a meaningless screenplay. The characters in the movie are plausible enough, but one can make out the next scene that is about to unfold. Anthony Mackie is a good actor whose performance is noteworthy. Forest Whitaker does a fine job, with the screenplay restricting his performance. Whitaker loses balance in captivity scenes. The movie’s opening scene and climax are quite good. There are lots of other bad movies, and this one certainly is not in the group. The movie Repentance is a not so bad melodrama. But, the talents have not been used to the maximum extent.
Verdict:Â It is a movie not thoroughly enjoyable but suffices for a weekend entertainment.
