Saving Face Movie Review

Introduction

Saving Face does its focus mainly on the mess happening inside a Chinese-American Family. There are a lot of things to point out like-a surgeon hides his friendship, lesbian relationship from others, a refuge dad refuses to his daughter.

Plot

Ma carries her life smoothly with Wai(her father), her mom Guang Lan Koh and also her daughter Wilhelmina who is 28years old. It’s more about Wil. She is a doctor from heart, honest, hard-working, does extra shifts without any hesitation in hospital. She does this daily without any complaints. After some time she initiates a relationship with a modern ballet dancer. Viv is her name. Both of them are struggling to confess about their relationship in front of their parents.

They think that their parents would abandon them after getting in contact with the fact. Somehow they did the confession and soon after conflicts begun to hit both of them. They fight with their families to get a perfect in their lives and try to maintain their relationship after all these consequences.

Analysis

A different story with a different team makes it very fresh. The way of storytelling is quite impressive. The movie revolves around a very sensitive topic and the screenplay writer has done a perfect job. The problems of lesbians are properly presented by the actors too. The comic timing was good and when some of the situations turned a little hot, actually they were very hot scenes. The thinking of people about the lesbians is purely presented throughout the movie.

Star Performance

Especially the mom-daughter duo spreads their magic all over the mobile. Whereas the dad-daughter duo tries fit in somewhere in the story. The fight scenes in the families really touched the heart. They seem absolutely practical. No overacting by anyone. The side characters finish their roles way better.

What’s There

1. Tries to convert the narrow-minded thinking of old-generation people with a very fresh story which is smoothly operated.

2. The knotty script which will make you think about the idea it is going to tell you.

3. Background score was quite fine whereas cinematography was also excellent.

What’s Not There

1. At some places, screenplay fails. In such type of sensitive script, you shouldn’t compromise with the script.

2. Talking about acting- only 2 or 3 of them were impressive including the lead ones.
