Plot

Tomb Raider is a video game-inspired movie that follows the adventures of Lara Croft. In this movie, Lara is attempting to make ends meet by working as a courier. She is trying to make peace with her father’s sudden disappearance. He has already been assumed dead, but Lara believes otherwise. When she is offered her part of the inheritance, Lara hesitantly accepts it. In the inherited family home, she finds a secret chamber of her father’s research.

Richard Croft had been navigating about Himiko, a mythical queen believed to be prowess of life and death. Through a message, he warns Lara to burn his findings and make peace with his sudden disappearance. Lara does the exact opposite and embarks on a conquest to find her father and the mystery of Himiko. But, she is unaware of the adventures that await her.

Star Performances

The Tomb Raider series has been in hype ever since it was launched and has many successful movies. This movie was no exception and its beauty was enhanced by Alicia Vikander as the protagonist. Her bold moves and action scenes were the most striking elements of this movie. This film proved to be her breakthrough in the industry and rightly so.

Analysis

Tomb Raider is the director’s attempt at bringing the thrilling experience of the famous game with the same name to the screen. This video game was like no other, it had viewers blinded by its glory. So, when it was adapted as a movie, the public was thrilled. This movie lived up to the expectations of all the gamers and a novice viewer. A masterpiece was created that had a balance between both worlds – gaming and entertainment.

The art of storytelling lies in crafting a detailed storyline with minute details and this movie has perfected it. A definite conflict was raised and as the movie neared to climax, all the pieces fell into place. The only flaw here was the mundane information during the first half of the movie. Those details could have been presented better to not bore the audience.
