Winnie Mandela is a drama film directed by Darrell Roodt based on Anne Marie’s du Preez Bezrob’s biography Winnie Mandela: A Life.
Plot: The film covers Winnie Mandela’s life from her childhood to her marriage to Nelson Mandela. It shows her struggles with life, her upbringing by a disappointed father who wanted a son. Followed by her marriage to Nelson Mandela and her sacrifices during his imprisonment. She suffers harassment and betrayal by her relatives and friends. When the movie begins, we get this feeling of why someone would make a movie about Winnie Mandela’s life when we have none other than Nelson Mandela and towards the end we are shocked to see the reality. We realize that it wasn’t only Nelson Mandela who suffered, Winnie walked with him throughout his sufferings. Oscar winner Ms.

as Winnie Mandela surprises the audience with her outstanding performance and realistic acting skills. The film is very well told the story of Winnie Mandela and nothing seems to be sugarcoated, everything is intact and to the point. Terrance Howard as Nelson Mandela is just another asset to the movie and a perfect choice to portray legendary Nelson Mandela. All the supporting performances are also commendable. Every aspect of the movie is beyond perfection, and one is astonished to see such marvelous cinema.
The depiction of Winnie Mandela’s hardship is extremely spectacular, and the audience really feels her. The painful separation of a couple and the emotional outburst gives goose bumps to the viewers. There is nothing unoriginal or pretentious about the movie. The acting, production, accuracy, and dialogues everything about the movie is done with utmost care and perfection.
Verdict: It is a must watch
