Plot
A survivor from atomic war, Ann Burden searches out an agrarian life on her family's valley farmstead, shielded from radioactive contaminants by slopes, good climate designs, and rich ground-sustained water supply. One day Ann meets survivor John Loomis, a gifted architect, who, supported by drugs and a radiation suit, has gone from far-off military defensive wall to the protected limits of Burden's valley. Loomis showers in impure water, and promptly sickens, yet is breastfed back to wellbeing by Ann, who invites him into her farmhouse. Loomis estimates that hydroelectric power may be created from the adjacent waterfall, utilizing a water-wheel designed from the Burden church's boards and shafts. Ann and Loomis become close, developing yields and planning for long-haul residence. Their resident is damaged by strains, strikingly including issues of religion and Loomis' drinking. Loomis portrays a radiation-sickened youth who implored him for death, later secretly trusting his conviction that the kid was Ann's long-missing sibling. Promote pressures emerge amongst Caleb and Loomis following the sexual experience. The two men complete the water-wheel, moving it and its wooden flume into put on the waterfall. Loomis comes back to the farmhouse alone. Ann apologizes for her prior tactlessness; Loomis discloses to her that Caleb chose to movement south, to the drift, looking for different settlements. Ann takes this news seriously. Ann finds that her cherished church organ and three designed seats moved into the outbuilding. The two seem to trade brief questionable looks, Ann playing a song, Loomis sitting, as the scene blurs to dark.
