Debut directorial by Reema Mukherjee Bio coming soon... >> Read More... , ‘ Ardhangini Ardhangini - Ek Khoobsurat Jeevan Saathi was a dra >> Read More... -Ek Ardhsatya’ is based on the classic play ‘Ghare Baire’ by Nobel laureate, Rabindranath Tagore.

Plot: The movie is set in the starting of the 20th century when India was a British colony, and the fight for independence was at its zenith. The extremists and the non-violent protesters all were fighting tooth and nail for their freedom. This was a time when the communal riots between the Hindus and the Muslims had started catching fire. Amidst all this was, Sandip (Subrat Dutta), a young freedom fighter who decides to visit his friend, Nikhil Chowdhary (Subodh Bhave) at his country estate at Sukyasai. The calm and composed Nikhil welcomes his friend Sandip with an open heart.

Nikhil’s alluring wife, Bimla (Sreelekha Mitra) is attracted towards the magnetic, attractive personality of Sandip's. Eventually, Sandip also falls for the appealing aura of Bimla and this fatal attraction is the beginning of an adulterous relation. Sandip decides to stay and work for his political motives from Sukysai and maintain his relation with Bimla. Little does Bimla know that she is a mere pawn in the game of power for Sandip. Will Bimla be able to identify the real Sandip and what will Nikhil do…to find out the answers? The audience will have to book their tickets for a show of the film,’ Ardhangini’.

Analysis: Director Reema Mukherjee considers her first directorial venture,’Ardhangini’ to be a tribute to her idol, Rabindranath Tagore. The play ‘Ghare Baire’ was earlier adapted into a movie by the legendary director, Satyajit Ray Biographies reveal bare details about the maverick >> Read More... . A serious work on the part of the director, ‘Ardhangini’ fails to overcome expectations. The story does not incorporate the idea and the values of the original play but is more of a liberal interpretation of the same. The audience will be disappointed if they visit the theaters expecting the authentic storyline and flavor of the playwright, Rabindranath Tagore.

Star Performances: Subodh Bhave has ‘Ardangini’ as his debut movie in Hindi. An otherwise extremely talented actor, Subodh Bhave proves his mettle in this film too. The character of the suave, refined, Nikhil is acted to perfection by Subodh Bhave. Subrat Dutta also does wonders in the portrayal of the charismatic Sandip and manages to gain the appreciation for his serious work. Sreelekha Mitra is the quintessential beautiful, beguiling wife of Nikhil, who plays the enchantress to his friend, Sandip. She adorns all her jewelry wonderfully and expresses all emotions in the most worthy manner. What’s There: The cast ensemble is worth appreciating and put real efforts in their characters and deliver entertaining performances. The music of the movie is soulful and heart touching. The visuals especially the landscape scenery used is appreciable. The locales used to give a look for the pre-independence era is impeccable and highly accurate.

What’s Not There: The script and story are weak. The original values of the play are not adapted, and this makes the story lose the charm about it. The screenplay is weak and does not support the movie. The editing is mediocre and thus gives a faulty quality to the film overall.

Verdict: ‘Ardhangini’ is a serene movie which will not go beyond expectations but will also not disappoint completely. If one is fond of musical dramas, then this film is their cup of tea, but if one is a fan of the modern cinema techniques, then the movie can be missed.
