PLOT

All four stories in this movie deal with issues that are uncommon to be talked about in the orthodox Indian society and moreover, to be put on the screen. It attempts to challenge the shackles of the society and bring to the fore issues are not discussed but need to be and should be.

The first story, 'I am Afia' is about a wife who wants have a baby only to learn that her husband loves someone else after which she decides to get pregnant through artificial insemination. The story traces her relation with the sperm donor.

The second story 'I am Megha' is about a girl who’s a Kashmiri Pandit and returns to her hometown where she feels disowned in her own birthplace. She takes momentary shelter at Rubina’s house only to learn that she too suffered, whom she had resented and cited as the reason for her despair.

The third story 'I am Abhimanyu' is about a man who has been a victim of sexual abuse as a child and has different sexual preferences and is still discovering his sexuality. He is in a dilemma whether to meet his dying stepfather or not, the man who abused him and left him bitter memories of his childhood.

The final story 'I am Omar' is about a gay corporate guy who traces his relationship with his partner and how they are blackmailed by a ruthless cop while they are caught in the act.

Analysis

'I am' are two words that hold a meaning so deep that if one delves deep into it, one will be led on a path of self-discovery. It does not have a single meaning; it is what you define it as and what you define yourself as.

Onir does the same with his movie, where he tackles and portrays different definitions of the title and does it exceedingly well!

The story is moving and grasping, it compels you to think and to reflect on issues that affect our lives and are extremely poignant in today’s time.

An amazing plot which are perfectly beautified with more amazing performances. Onir has done an exceptional job.

Unconventional and interesting stories highlighting the truth of our society. A climax in every story and that too an enthralling one in each.

What’s not there?

There is nothing missing in this film; it is perfect. It’s a serious one, so if you enjoy light hearted movies, this might not be for you, but it’s worth a try. Verdict This movie is a must watch. One is ought to feel liberated after watching it!
