Although “I Don’t Luv U” is typically a film about modern day college romance, the makers of the film have tried to inject several other topical issues like the craze of the FB crowd of today to upload their stories, and also the growing unscrupulous use of MMS on the one hand and the tendency of the TV media to lap it up at any cost just to boost their own TRP ratings.

Plot: The male protagonist is Yuvan portrayed by Ruslaan Mumtaz Ruslaan Mumtaz (born 2 August 1982) is an Indian B >> Read More... , the 19-year-old college boy, who immensely enjoys teasing the fellow girl students along with his college friends, remembering intimate details about all of them. Yuvan, however, seems to sober down immensely once he falls for new entrant Aayra, played by Chetna Pande Chetna Pande is an Indian Television and Bollywood >> Read More... , an NRI student. While Yuvan steadily woos Aayra, the latter seems not interested at all initially. She, later on, reverses her decision realising Yuvan to be really a good natured and helping a guy when she sees him trying to rebuild the shattered life of one of his friends who had been cheated of love. Their love grows steadily until one day they find themselves alone in Aayra's house and starts taking pictures on their cell phones. Accidentally, one of their very intimate moments gets captured on the video recorder, which they both know was unintended.

However, things take a weird turn as Yuvan’s cell phone is taken away by one of his friends, Lovely, and through him, the MMS of Yuvan and Aayra gets publicised not only in the college but also falls in the hands of the media who encash upon the same. Crestfallen and totally despondent at the turn of events Yuvan attempts to end his life but is unsuccessful as he falls from the balcony with Aayra’s diary in his pocket – the same diary in which she had recounted her true love for Yuvan. The inspector who was probing the case tries to piece together the sequence of events, as they happened, and with so much publicity for the case, the general public grew sympathetic towards Yuvan and started praying for his recovery. Ultimately the two young lovers are united after a lot of forgiveness all round.

Review: What strikes out after watching the movie is the attempt to cram in too many messages into the movie without focussing at depth on any one of them, thus losing overall focus. The other striking feature, albeit negative, is the lopsided composition of the pre and post intermission sessions. While the first half of the film develops well as a college teenage drama, the second half changes track and gets into moralising on current day teenage issues like the abuse of MMS. Also, the tendencies of TV channels to scoop up anything that has a hint of pushing up TRP even at the cost of the privacy of individuals. However, by not taking a definite stand on any of these, nor presenting them as a current day reality, director Amit Kasaria Amit Kasaria is a talented Indian film director an >> Read More... ends up nowhere with his multiple themes.

Star Performances: As for acting, the film largely draws on new talents, but the two main leads Ruslaan Mumtaz and Chetna Pande perform adequately, with Ruslaan making a mark in the latter half of the film in his sentimental self.

Verdict: Teenage themes have always had a dedicated following and this film touting about contemporary issues should definitely fetch the relevant crowds, driven as they would be more out of curiosity about the subjects dealt, if not for its absolute values.
