“Luv U Soniyo” is a love story, attempted somewhat on conventional lines, with the usual inbuilt hurdle to the union of the two lovers coming from the fact that they belong to two different communities. This is, however, no Romeo-Juliet type of affair, and has no traces of chivalry or violent clashes.

Plot: At two ends of this plot are the protagonists Mark Briganza ( Tanuj Virwani Think of young and talented Indian actors and the >> Read More... ) and Soniyo Gill ( Neha Hinge Neha Hinge is an Indian actress and also a model. >> Read More... ), both of whom study in the same college, but are perhaps temperamentally quite set apart. Mark is the typical happy go lucky youth, quite casual about his studies and life in general, going through the motions of a college education while spending more time on the extra-curricular. Soniyo, on the other hand, is a shy and reserved girl from a conservative Punjabi family, who would normally follow the dictates of her family.

However, her attitude to life changes gradually once she finds herself pitted against a fiance chosen for her by her parents. To get rid of his thoughts she starts taking part in college functions and comes in contact with Mark, egged on by one of the crazy professors in college – the Aamir Khan Aamir Khan or Mohammed Aamir Hussain Khan is Bolly >> Read More... look-alike, Prof. Khan ( Howard Rosemeyer Howard Rosemeyer is a multi-faceted and extremely >> Read More... ), who seems more interested in encouraging his wards into dancing than teaching his course in Biology. Be that as it may, it does not take long for Soniyo to realise where her heart really lies. Courtesy the film’s clumsy villain Kuttikaran ( Suresh Menon Suresh Menon was born on 10th January 1967 in Mumb >> Read More... ), Mark and Suniyo get kidnapped by him and then dumped on the highway to Goa. This only helps the duo to come closer and attend Mark’s granny’s birthday celebrations at their Goa home. Events move towards a happy ending with family and community issues getting resolved and falling in place.

Review: Director Joe Rajan seems to have had his own doubts about the other merits of this mushy comic film of his and seems to have added a detour to Mexico for no logical reason except for adding some visuals for song-dance numbers and offer an opportunity to his cinematographer Kalpesh Bhandarkar Kalpesh V Bhandarkar is an Indian cinematographer, >> Read More... . Unfortunately, the romantic scenes are quite boring while the comic punches come too few and far between. The presentation and the contrast of Goan and Punjabi cultures, as perceived by the director seem quite skewed and shoddily stereotyped. Of the actors, Tanuj Virwani was identified as the son of yesteryear actress Rati Agnihotri Rati Agnihotri is an Indian movie actress who has >> Read More... . He does not show any dramatic evidence of acting in his blood, while Neha Hinge as the heroine looks pretty but not much more, as her transformation from being a shy girl to one who is open minded, does not seem to be too convincing. The cloning acts of the Aamir Khan look-alike seem to have been dragged beyond a point.

Verdict: All said and done it may be a watchable film if one is looking for a lazy outing not needing to concentrate too much on the goings on or having to sit on the edge for action thrills!
