A classic film with a well imagined plot. Manorama six feet under takes the ground off your feet due to the atmosphere of suspense and mystery it creates.
Plot: The movie starts with the introduction of Abhay Deol, who leads a mediocre life with his wife, Gul Panag and son. He works as a junior engineer with the Public Works Department in Lakota. Due to arid and unfavourable climatic conditions, this region faces the extremes and drought. The irrigation minister, Kulbhushan Kharbanda makes false and fancy promises to the people of diverting water from other neighbouring states. Abhay also has a passion towards writing but his debut fictional novel, Manorama doesn’t fair well. He feels, even more, dejected and doesn’t store one novel for himself too. Adding to his woes, he accepts a bike from Seema Constructions as a bike and is later suspended due to this illegal act of his. He is later approached by Manorama, the irrigation minister’s wife. She offers him a handsome amount of twenty thousand to spy on her husband pertaining to his extra marital affairs.
Abhay Deol accepts the offer. What twist will this lead to in his life? Watch to know. Analysis Clever writing, appealing visuals and good performances is what characterises this film. The cinematography and dialogues are the main strength of the movie. Songs are as less as one may need, but the ones present are ear soothing. The only week point arising is the script area. It is weak and hasn’t been to create a strong impact. The sequence arranged in the film is not right and jumping from one track to the other creates a lot of confusion and chaos.
Star Performance: Abhay Deol does deliver a decent performance. But his earlier ones were way better than this. Gul Panag’s role is hardly noticed. Raima Sen is alright. Kulbhushan Kharbanda is good enough.
What is there?
1. Not the usual kind of a story
2. The biography theme is well captured.
3. Widely imaginative with the subplots too being well directed.
4. Fantastic screenplay.
What is not there?
1. An impactful script.
2. A piece of art not for the masses.
Verdict: Like “
Chinatown
