Unlike other action thrillers on cops and criminals, “ Policegiri Click to look into! >> Read More... ” does not cover itself under remarkable names, but declares its subject quite succinctly. Like “Thanedar” in the past, this is almost like Sanjay Dutt July 29, 1959, was the day when the two legends of >> Read More... continuing the same obvious theme. Trying to repeat proven success stories, director Ravikumar has embarked on this remake of the Tamil hit “ Saamy Saamy is a Tamil actor who has featured in movies >> Read More... ” which was also followed by the Telegu version “Lakshmi Narasimha”. The fact that the latter was not a success may raise a few furrowed eye brows for the fate of “Policegiri.”

Plot: The story gets sets to go as DCP Rudra (Sanjay Dutta) takes over control of a town near the Andhra-Maharashtra border, which is infested with criminals and corrupt politicians. The main culprit is Nagori Subramaniam (enacted forcefully by Prakash Raj Prakash Raj, born on 26th of March, 1965, as Praka >> Read More... suiting the demands of the role), and Rudra starts by shutting down his illegal dens, forcing Nagori to work out a truce with him. Once they meet, as a strategy to nab Nagori, Rudra tells him that he is also corrupt and will take his share of bribes. Nagori accepts his conditions and agrees to a truce.

However, Rudra is forced to act when Nagori’s cohorts create a problem by beating up a lady. The truce is broken, and further trouble erupts when, using his political clout, Nagori calls for a bandh in the market, but Rudra is able to drive away all the troublemakers. However, Nagori is unrelenting and fuels a riot even on the day Rudra is to marry his fiancée Seher (played by Prachi Desai A true Virgo at heart, Prachi Desai was born at Su >> Read More... ). Failing on all fronts, Nagori now tries to kidnap Seher but fails in this nefarious mission also. As Nagori has links with the top echelons of the police, he tries to control Rudra through them, and is successful in getting a transfer order, Rudra is asked to leave the town in seven days, but Rudra is determined to bring this menace to an end, if needed by taking things in his own hands in those seven days. Nagori now uses the entire might of corrupt officers and politicians against Rudra, threatening him to stop his activities against Nagori, but Rudra retorts by saying that he has recorded the entire video on his hidden pen camera, and he was about release the footage to the media.

Nagori now goes into hiding but is soon caught. Rudra decides to permanently remove this menace by taking him to a secluded spot and burning him down so that he is never found and declared as a wanted criminal in all official records for all time to come. Coming after a stint of several successful films in the South, this is Tamil film director K. S. Ravikumar’s first Hindi film and has clear traces of a southern movie, with its slick action and colourful settings. Even the locales are exclusively from the South and cinematographer Ekambaram’s familiarity with this terrain is obvious from the effective representation of the colourful Southern locales. Amongst the actors, Sanjay Dutt takes to this role like fish to water, having performed in similar roles so many times in the past, but his counterfoil Prakash Raj is no less impressive as the dangerous criminal brain, who stoops to any level in his villainy.

The title of the film being quite descriptive of its contents, it is basically an old style crime action film, dressed up Southern style and with a modern sheen.

Verdict: In spite of its obvious handicaps, those who like this oft-repeated genre should not be disappointed with what they come to see.
