The film happens to be South director Susi Ganesh’s first foray into Bollywood, and to keep things safer for him; he decided to take the remake path – using his successful Tamil film “Thiruttu Payale” as his prop for his debut into Hindi films. Even in the selection of plot he has played safe by choosing a blackmail based thriller, where the action is more of a cerebral and psychological nature rather than fisticuffs and bullets.

Plot: For once, there are no conventional good guys in the film with all the main characters each having shades of negativism. The leader of the pack is, however, Suraj, played by Neil Nitin Mukesh This handsome actor was born as the son of Nitin M >> Read More... , forever the combative type, who lands up in Mumbai from his native Goa after bashing up his younger sibling. This is where his mischief takes a more sinister and serious turn. Catching upon a couple engaged in an illicit love affair on a golf park, he snaps them in compromising poses and uses the same for blackmailing them.

Both the participants – the trainee female golfer Monica, (played by Ameesha Patel Ameesha Patel was born on 9th June 1975. She is an >> Read More... ) and her golf coach Ashish, (played by Jatin Grewal Jatinder Singh Grewal or Jatin Grewal follows Scie >> Read More... ) are from affluent backgrounds with the lady being the wife of a high-profile tycoon, Rahul, played by Rajesh Sringarpure. Ruthless as he is in his attitude and manners, Suraj drives a hard bargain with Monica, knowing her compulsions to keep everything under wraps. But she gives Suraj a tough fight at every step, matching his machinations with her own cunning nature. Things take a different turn when Suraj happens to fall in love with Sherry, played by Puja Gupta Pooja Gupta or Puja Gupta, is a Bollywood Actress >> Read More... , a quiet and reserved girl from a rich family, who suffers from loneliness. It brings a change in Suraj’s usually aggressive attitude, realising that the passion for love is quite different from the greed for money. At another level, the one-upmanship continues between Suraj and Monica, till Monica’s husband Rahul engages a private detective to tackle the matter. This results in Sherry too getting drawn into the melee, and the film ends up after some interesting sequence of events with quite a few unexpected turns.

Review: The way the screenplay is developed, it gives Neil a lion’s share of prominence in the film, and he seems to have made the most of it with outstanding performance to bring out the scheming character of Suraj, and also the transformation that comes over him once he falls in love.

Like Neil, Ameesha Patel also excels in a matching role, almost like the matching of wits of the characters they portray. Amidst all the prominence given to the two lead roles, Puja Gupta as Sherry is still able to draw some attention as the conventional heroine of the film. Though he relies on his own creation in Tamil, he has embellished the Hindi version with a much larger appeal and etched the characters much sharper, with the twists and turns in the screenplay always staying away from the predictable, with the final climax a master stroke.

On the flip side, however, the romance element does not seem to have received much prominence compared to the drama of the thrills. The film also offers a grand opportunity to the cinematographer during the Kenyan interlude to capture the wonders of the Masai Mara graphically. Thankfully the musical score of Himesh Reshammiya Intro: Himesh Reshammiya got his stardom after win >> Read More... merges with the rest of the movie, and, at least, one of the tracks stands out on its own merit.

Verdict: All in all, it is a film well worth watching not just for the gripping drama but also for the treatment meted out by Susi Ganesh. Perhaps a classy name could have been more appropriate to match with the overall qualities of the film.
