Plot

A couple opts to live in, and they try their best to keep it under wraps from their traditional parents since they will have none of it. However, when their ruse is discovered, they are instructed to marry as per the traditions. How will the couple sort out the mess they have made?

Star Performances

The only two things that are good about this film are its music and its acting.

Harish R has given some decent music to the film. At least the viewers won’t feel bad about the overall ambiance of the film.

The acting performances are also likable. Be it Pruthvi Ambaar and Milana Nagraj, or Ravi Shankar P., everyone gave their best to this film. If only the screenplay was equally good.

Analysis

A couple opts for ‘live in’, but their traditional parents won’t allow it. They opt for bizarre schemes and almost end up getting divorced. Hmmm, where have we heard of this before?

Oh wait, that’s the basic essence of the storyline of films like ‘ Luka Chuppi Click to look into! >> Read More... ’, ‘ Zara Hatke Zara Bachke Envisioned as a sitcom depicting the lives of Sonu >> Read More... ’ and even ‘Dum Laga ke Haisha’ to some extent. Now Naveen Dwarakanath has come up with ‘For Regn’, a romantic comedy in Kannada, that chooses a nice concept, to begin with, but loses focus in terms of execution.

In such films, subtlety is of great essence. However, unfortunately, there is no such thing in this film. No matter how great the actors do, they just cannot make up for the mediocrity of the script. In some instances, the director has made the narrative too preachy, that even his target audience would wonder: ‘Is this for real?’

Another thing that makes this film far from impressive is its runtime. Despite having the potential for a slick, no-nonsense comedy, the runtime of 2 hours and 20 minutes feels too much for a film of this level. The first half is not that bad, but the second half almost tests the patience of the viewers. Most of them would heave a sigh of relief once the end credits roll in.

Is there anything good in this film? Yes, the acting. If not for the screenplay, the acting performances would have almost salvaged this film. The lead couple of Pruthvi and Milana, as well as the performance of Ravi Shankar P. as the advocate is phenomenal. They try to make up for the mess made by the narrative.

What's There?

  • Some good music by Harish R
  • Performances by Pruthvi Ambaar, Milana Nagaraj, and Ravi Shankar P.

What's Not There?

  • Awkward transition of sequences
  • Bad editing
  • Extremely sluggish pace
  • Underwhelming screenplay that almost tests the patience of the viewers
  • A narrative that is too preachy

Verdict

‘For Regn’ had a unique concept to begin with. The music is decent, and the acting performances are also above average. All that this film needed was a tight screenplay, and this is what this film missed big time. You can watch this if you have lots of spare time.
