If you had watched the trailer of Ben, it would have been quite upsetting. The scenes wherein a child is being abused will indeed disturb you. But again, it is the hard reality of the world. Well, one thing should be mentioned about Malayalam movies. Though these movies may not have a strong ensemble of cast, they manage to make an impact even through unknown faces or less known faces. Ben is one such film.

Plot

Ben is a city school-going kid (and is under pressure by his mother) who sees things in a fashion which is more than what others see. Also, he is a happy-go-lucky guy and isn’t much bothered about studies. But is it a boon or a bane for him? Well, the people in the society perceive him as a mentally disturbed person. The crux of the story is whether what Ben is seeing is real or is he really having any mental problem. The film also has the joint family setup attached to it.

Analysis

This flick is captured at the beautiful locations of Kerala.

Star Performances

You will empathize with Master Gaurav Menon (who has already worked in the 2013 flick Philips and The Monkey Pen) throughout the movie. He has indeed come out with a stellar performance as the school kid who finds it difficult to cope up with the school’s pressure. Suraj has done a neat job though he has a brief role. Anjali Aneesh Upasana Anjali Aneesh Upasana is an actress, who predomina >> Read More... shows that she can act well. Rajesh Sharma Rajesh Sharma is an Indian actor. His work is pred >> Read More... and Anwar Shereef Anwar Shereef is an Indian film actor who acts pre >> Read More... are also a good choice.

What’s there

1. The exquisite locations of Kerala are captured in a beautiful manner.

2. The music of Vipin Atley (who has written, directed and composed music) is fine.

What’s not there?

1. The second half is too melodramatic.

2. The way in which Ben beats all odds could have been shown in a more convincing manner.

3. The movie suddenly shifts into a dark note, which the director struggles to balance.

Verdict

The parents and kids should definitely watch this film.
