Plot
The film starts by introducing us to Rudra, played by Master Mahendran. He is first shown as a high school student getting prepared for his exams, and then, soon after, he is shown celebrating his graduation with his friends.
A series of unfortunate events leads Rudra to find his way to the Amigo Garage, where he meets a man named Anant, played by G.M. Sundar. Over time, his friendship and affection towards the people of the gang increases, as he also tries to find his way to getting revenge.
Star Performance
Master Mahendran does a somewhat convincing job as Rudra, the protagonist of the film. However, it can be said that he does not look the part of a youngster, with a full beard and big biceps. Yet, to his credit, he has delivered a nuanced performance. Other impressive roles include that of G.M. Sundar as Anant. He does not have a major role, but the small role that he had, he has delivered impactfully. Madhan Gopal and Dasarathi Narasimhan Bio coming soon... >> Read More... have also done a good job, as Bucket and Guru respectively.
Analysis
The basic essence of this film revolves around a normal boy who gets involved in a life of gangsters and makes the people of the gang his family. However, very early on in the film, the makers of the film make it abundantly clear that they do not mean to glorify the life of gangsters in any way or form. That is a good thing about this film, as it seems to be a cautionary tale. That is a unique take on this type of narrative as compared to other films of the same genre.
Amigo Garage is an overly cliche film at times. Even the characters are cliche, and none of them, with the exception of Rudra, are remarkable in any way. The screenplay of the film is very abrupt, and we see the story going from one scene to another scene without any proper context or a smooth flow of events. Many characters appear in some scenes for a couple of minutes and are never to be heard from again. There is predictability with most parts of the film, to the point where even an exciting initial idea becomes monotonous.
However, to Amigo Garage's credit, there are some scenes that do appear meaningful. The moments that Rudra shares with his friends in the beginning of the film, or those he experiences with the people of Amigo Garage do get wholesome at times. They add an emotional element to the film and make an attempt to tie together the rather messy plot.
The film is just lacking in terms of complexity and clarity. The scenes are too jumpy which makes the narrative seem illegible. Rudra's arc and development as the main character is also subpar, which is a major missing element in the film.
Amigo Garage has a lot of potential. The base plot is interesting, but it falls short in terms of execution.

Verdict
There are certainly good things that can be said about Amigo Garage, but they are too few. The flaws of the film make it less than enjoyable to watch.
