Plot

Dakshayini, daughter of a folk dance Rajamanickam, falls in love with Akilan. However, their love is looked down upon by the local villagers, for whom maintaining social order is more important.

Meanwhile, a large-hearted muscleman comes out of jail. When he witnesses the exploitation of his villagers, particularly women, over absurd grounds, he is forced to take the law into his own hands. Who will prevail in the end?

Star Performances

The actors have done a great job. RK Suresh and Subramaniya Siva are the standout performers in this film.

The camerawork and the action choreography are also fair for a project of this level.

Analysis

Not many films would like to be in the state as ‘Kaaduvetty’. The film gained less prominence because of its content, and more because of its issue with the Censor Board. So, does the film manage to overcome the off-screen controversy or not?

‘Kaaduvetty’ is a social drama that explores multiple subjects in a single film. Social discrimination, honor killing, casteism, you name it and the film has it. For a moment, you could almost imagine it as a local adaptation of the Marathi hit ‘ Sairat Click to look into! >> Read More... ’. The difference is that ‘Kaaduvetty’ is bigger, commercial, and louder in tone.

Now that is not a problem if the focus on the storyline was great. What makes it more troublesome is that the entire focus was just on commercialism. The narrative's tone was a bit too loud for the audience to bear. The worst of it all, there is no synchronization in the screenplay. Agreed, many scenes have been censored. But that cannot be an excuse to make way for an average story.

However, individually, this film is not anywhere close to being a trainwreck. The camerawork, as well as the action choreography in this film, is above average.

The actors in this movie have done justice to their respective roles. They were a bit overboard in some places, but it had less to do with their acting. Subramaniya Siva the helpless father, and RK Suresh the large-hearted muscleman did their best to make this film more than watchable.

Verdict

‘Kaaduvetty’ is a social drama that could have been executed better. The ambiance of the film was decent, and some of the performances almost made this film endearing. Had the screenplay been a little more nuanced, this film could have been a good action entertainer.
