Plot

Sakalakala Vallavan revolves around two family enemies – Shakthi and Chinnasamy, who fight over an election. Shakthi develops feelings for Anjali who turns out to be Chinnasamy’s cousin. Circumstances force Shakthi to marry Divya who subsequently requests a divorce. The movie’s plot centers on Shakthi and Divya’s ability to make their marriage work, despite all the difficulties.

Star performance

Unfortunately, the movie doesn’t contain any star performances and is a total failure.

Analysis

The film aims to be a comedy and believes that everything can be made funny by showing viewers a scene that references an already famous scene; in the way of dialogues, character names and background music. Additionally, it tries to show its self-awareness by alerting us every time the characters are about to break into a song. To make matters worse, it degrades itself to a sexist comedy – making fun of domestic abuse (the husband slapping the wife to keep her under his control), domestic rape (the hero is so enraged that the heroine doesn’t want to sleep with him that he tells her he will rape her), molestation (the hero falling on the top of heroines portrayed as romance), etc. The script is absurd and its execution is worse. The acting is worse than the ridiculous script. Everyone including the lead and the supporting actors turns out to be bizarre.

What’s there?

The film doesn’t contain anything that can be noted down. Not even the music of the film could save it from its downfall.

What’s not there?

It is an outdated production with a ridiculous plot.
There is inconsistent characterization. A modern-day girl, who identifies herself as an independent woman, agrees to marry a guy whom she isn’t interested in without even raising any objection.

Verdict

Sakalakala Vallavan, one of its kind, is a stain on the career of all involved in its making. Though it tries to be entertaining, it becomes a complete bore. Watch this film only if you want to watch a movie for a theatrical experience.
