Honestly, I had no expectations for this film or on director Siva in particular. I was very much sure that this film is going to be a mass commercial one that will satisfy only Ajith's fans. That's what exactly it did. This film has everything. Sister sentiment, love, fights, comedy, songs, you name it, and it will be there.  But I still liked few things in the film, which I will write in detail below.

Ganesh is an innocent taxi driver in Kolkata. He has a sister named Tamizh. He is a calm guy but suddenly goes on a revenge and killing spree. Now, there is the flashback. Who is Ganesh? No no. Please don't expect a Baasha kind of a flashback. So Ganesh is Vedalam, and he is a big Rowdy, and this sister of his is not his sister. Some rowdies kill her parents, and that's why Vedalam plots a revenge drama. In between there are loads of Vikraman style La La La moments between Ganesh (Ajith) and Tamizh ( Lakshmi Menon Films came to Lakshmi Menon at an age when she had >> Read More... ).

I was not impressed with the script. It's regular revenge drama. All the same, I liked the way Siva used the Ajith factor to his advantage. He gave a lot of variation to his character, and that worked in few places. There is nothing new in the script; the director totally took the audience for granted and expected audience means only Thala fans. Music by DSP was loud and jarring. Oh. Ok, I think the music is by Anirudh. Right. Except Aluma Doluma song, I didn't find any positives. The cinematography was neat and well done. Editing was patchy and abrupt. Even before the scene got over, it jumped to the next scene.

Ajith totally rocked in both the characters he played.. He is one star who has always had a bumper opening. Ganesh had this innocent shades, and Vedalam is the evil one. Ajith neatly showed the variations and did a phenomenal job. But I liked the baddie character because that was more original and natural. The innocent one looked so fake to me. Lakshmi Menon has done her career best role. She got ample screen time along with Ajith and did a clean job. The villains were ok. Shruti Haasan Shruti Hassan is an Indian film actress born on 28 >> Read More... comes for a song and disappears. Soori irritates with his comedy. Appukutty does the sidekick for Vedalam and does a neat job. Vedalama is pure one man show, and that's Ajith.

This film is tailor made for Ajith fans, and they will love it. I honestly liked the 2nd half, which had more negative shades to Ajith and he rocked. 1st half was more sister sentiment and "naan romba nalla payan" kind of Ajith, which didn't look good and it dragged. You can watch this film only for Ajith, even if you are not his fan but make sure you go to the theatre only 15 mins before the interval. A regular commercial mass masala film, Vedalam.
