Hidimbha is a Telugu action, mystery, and investigative thriller film released in 2023. Aneel Kanneganti is the film’s director, and Sridhar Gangapatnam is the producer. Vikas Badisha composed the music, and M.R. Varma edited the film. The cinematography is by B. Rajasekar, and the art direction is by Sharmela Yalisetty.

Plot

The film revolves around the mysterious disappearance of several girls in Hyderabad. Unable to find any clue, the police department faces immense pressure from the government. Abhay (Ashwin Babu), a junior police inspector, is also involved in this investigation. 

Abhay and Adhya are old lovers who separate from each other when Adhya cleared the IPS exam and moved to Kerala. Abhay thinks that a gang is behind these kidnappings, while Adhya discovers that only women wearing red dresses have disappeared. On investigating further, they find that a tribe called Hidimbha is behind this serial kidnapping.

Where are the missing girls? Who is behind their mysterious disappearance? Will Adhya and Abhay be successful in solving this cast? What is the love story between Adhya and Abhay?

Star Performance

Ashwin Babu gave a fantastic performance. His dialogue delivery and expressions are superb. He makes the film engaging with his action scenes. His physical strength is visible throughout the film. With a powerful performance, he proves that he can be an asset to the Telugu film industry.

Nandita Sweta played a significant role in this film. She shows all the characteristics of an intelligent and determined IPS officer. The way she does investigations is impressive for the viewers. She looks beautiful on the screen. Among all the cast, Ashwin and Nandita are the strengths of this film.

Makarand Deshpande Makarand Deshpande is an Indian actor and director >> Read More... perfectly executed a negative role in this film. His expressions are outstanding. His evilness makes the film interesting. The entire second half revolves around him.

Analysis

The opening scene indicates an engaging plot, and the concept of the missing girls is also well-developed. The investigation scenes and the love story in the first half-hour create excitement among the viewers. The story does not appear to be boring because unexpected twists are frequently introduced. The Kala Banda scene is the most impressive part of this film, reminding the viewers of the KGF movie. This scene holds the first half firmly. The scene in which the lead characters plan to catch the kidnappers using red color also makes the film interesting.

The film also introduces an ancient tribe Hidimbha. The crime scenes and the flashback episodes are well-executed. Ashwin Babu’s action-packed performance enriches the film’s thrilling atmosphere. However, the film has various flaws. The characters are not perfectly developed and explored in depth. It seems like the director has mainly focused on the second half. The first half is slow-paced and does not create much interest. Some of the investigation scenes seem to be illogical. Moreover, the intensity of the climax is not up to the expectations.

Verdict

Overall, Hidimbha is an impressive film with a thrilling concept. It could have been a chart-buster film if the first half was more exciting. The film starts becoming engaging only just before the interval. The film is overloaded with violence which may not be pleasing to some sections of society. However, if you stick to the film till the pre-interval, it will start giving you goosebumps. People who love action-packed movies will surely like it.
