Veteran actor Srikanth, who is waiting for a proper success for a long time is presently scrutinising his fortune with his latest venture Mental Police. S.K. Basheed’s film has hit the theatres today. Let’s have a look at it.

Plot:

Durga Prasad Bio coming soon... >> Read More... gets locked up in a correctional home when he was a child for exterminating the gang responsible for his mother’s death. There, he realises that none but a police officer has the right to kill the wrong doers and starts dreaming of becoming a cop. As the time flies by, Durga becomes a dedicated but ruthless cop who does not allow any nuisance and misdeeds. Due to his nature, he is known as Mental Police. But things take a wrong turn when Durga fights head to head with a powerful local baddie. What aftermath does Durga encounter? What role does Durga’s wife Rama play in this drama? How did he surpass all the odds? That frames the rest of the movie.

Analysis:

The major attraction of the film is a portrayal of all the flaws in our society . The first fifteen minutes is pretty intriguing and portrayed well. The bold dialogues in few tracks are worked well. The first half has few standard moments, and the interval twist is great. A dragging exhibition of cop power previously showcased in many police story flicks. Although there is a massive star cast, none has a substantial role except Srikanth. As in many cop stories, the sequences are predictable enough, and you know what is going to occur the next. After the fantastic interval track, the latter half starts on a flashback and keeps on drawing till the end. The production values of the venture are all just OK. Sai Karthik Sai Karthik ( Sai Kartheek) is a noted South India >> Read More... does his job only in parts as melodies have no market in the film. Editing is average and at least 15 minutes could have been hacked down in the latter half. The cinematography is fabulous. Director S.K. Basheed wanted to bring forth many social stigmas but finally gets confused and does not stick on a single problem. He is unable to utilize his star cast as the whole film depends on Srikanth.

Star performance:

Srikanth takes the whole film on his back and performs superbly in his character. He is terrific, all the face to face scenes with the baddie and delivers a superb performance. Aksha is not utilised in the role of a lead heroine.

What’s there?

On the whole, Mental is an old version and beaten to death cop drama which does not appeal to the audience to the core. The makers wanted to showcase Srikanth in a character similar to that of Operation Duryodhana but failed miserably.

What’s not there?

At least two songs interrupt the flow of the film a lot. There are many extraneous comedy tracks which disturb at regular intervals

Verdict:

If you love watching clichéd and over the top cop dramas, you can give this film a chance. Rest can take it coolly.
