Johnny Lever is an Indian comedy actor who came to prominence with film actor Govinda’s films. As actors like Kader Khan and Shakti Kapoor had reached a zenith in their career, it was actor Sunil Dutt who had spotted this actor in a stage (show of Amitabh Bachchan and music composer Kalyanji Anandji) and advised him to take up comedy roles seriously. He is one of the comedians who appear truly funny to make us laugh. He is also known for his wits and smarts and appears to make intelligent jokes and poke fun in many films. After Govinda was overshadowed by the prominence of Shahrukh Khan, Aamir Khan and Salman Khan in the film world, Johnny Lever could make audiences laugh by using his physical appearances even in many Khans movies. He dislikes present talk comedy shows on TV and feels comedy is something that does not come in everyday life and hence screen is the mainstream media to help the comedians grow. Lever was born in Hyderabad.
His mother tongue is Telugu, and he was born to Prakash Rao Janumala and Karunamma Janumala on August 14, 1957. Besides Hindi, he has acted in a Tamil, Telugu(cameo role) and even in Tulu language film. Before making debut in films, Lever used to work in Hindustan Lever Limited Company. Once during a function of his company, he tried to make mimicry of his senior officers, and his colleagues named him Johnny Lever (not Johnny Rao). That is how Johnny came to be known as Johnny Lever to all of us. After his first debut in Sunil Dutt’s Dard Ka Rishta( where even Khushboo acted in a child role), Johnny’s talent was given a free rein in many successful films.
Many of his films such as Anari, Main Hoon Na, Tezaab, Raja Hindustani, Koyla, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, Aamdani Atthani Kharcha Rupaiyaa, Golmaal-3, and many such movies cemented his reputation as a comic force. He was the highly sought-after comedian in Bollywood from 1990’s till date. He married Sujata Janumala and has tow children, Jamie Janumala, and Jesse Janumala. He practices Christianity now very often. He took to such turn in his life on account of his son’s illness. His son was diagnosed to have cancer. On this account, he has revealed that he had turned to God, and when after ten days his son was diagnosed again, doctors found that the disease has disappeared. This was turning point in his life. Currently, he has few projects in his hand, but he is still one of the more popular comedy actors of recent years.
Rakhee Tandon first came into limelight with Zee’s ‘Banegi Apni Baat’ a serial by Deeya and Toni Singh. The role has a glamorous touch to it, and it was very much liked by the younger generation of that time.
But the killer punches provided to his career by the comedy serial “Hum Paanch” where she played the role of “Sweety Mathur”, Sister No 3 in the Family and a girl with all beauty and no brain.
Some of the memorable antic associated with that role were the eagerness to open the door and dancing to any song while opening the door. Believe me, it looked very hilarious at that time. The serial was very popular, and her style was very much appreciated. In the late 90s, it became daily diet of the comedy for the Indian TV viewers.
She has acted in many Hindi films, and her role of Julie Gonsalves' in Golmaal Returns as Anthony wife was an instant hit. Her loud acting mixed with bizarre circumstances looked very funny in this movie.
Some of the other movies she has done so far are “Money Hai Toh Honey Hai”, “Thank you” (played the role of Don’s wife) and “Sadiyaan”. Apart from this, she also acted in many serials like Dekh Bhai Dekh (Shekhar Suman), Heena (Ruby) Baat Ban Jaaye (Rakhi), Jassi Jaissi Koi Nahin (Anjali "Angel" Suri).
She also participated in Big Boss second season and got eliminated early. She was married to Ravina Tandon’s brother Rajeev Tandon but due to differences, they got divorced. But till this date she has not removed the ‘Tandon’ surname from her name. We wish her all the best for her upcoming projects and movies.
