Karthik Sharma is a talented young singer and a music composer in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu film industry. He is known for his songs in different languages such as Malayalam, Oriya, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Hindi and has worked on more than four hundred songs. Born on 7 November 1980 in a Tamil family in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India was trained in Carnatic vocalist in his school days.
In college days, he was part of a band and performed in different fests including the fest of IIT Madras and Oxford engineering college. He also studied cinematography in Mumbai. He entered into the music industry with the help of this close friend's cousin (Srinivas) who is also a playback singer and have worked with Kartik's childhood hero , the music maestro, AR Rahman with whom he worked for a year and half and studied audio engineering. He started his career from a movie called Pukar, but got a big break during a song shooting for ‘One 2 Ka 4’. Kartik's dream came true of working with AR Rahman when AR Rahman asked him to sing a song for his film star called ‘Nenthukitten’. Followed by he started working with Ilayaraja, Mani Sharma, Hamsalekha, Devi Sri Prasad, Vidyasagar and Harris Jeyaraj.
He also came up with an album named "Music I Like". He has worked on a song with Kamal Haasan called the ‘Anbe Sivam’, it was the title song of the movie. He was also a child actor in a remake movie of ‘Case No.18/9’ along with Nagaraj Kote as his son. His most famous songs are ‘Kotha Bangaru Lokam’ (Nijanga Nenena), ‘Happy Days’, "Badhulu Thochani", "Manase Guvvai", "Oh Oh My Friend", "Yeduta Nilichindi Choodu", "Meghama" , "Yevvaro" are very popular.
His other popular songs include "Behka" from Ghajini,"Ava Enna" from the ‘Vaaranam Aayiram’ and the title track from ‘Unnale Unnale’. He worked for a ‘Coca Cola’ commercial and ‘Prince Jeweler’ advertisements. He has also worked in feature films and period films like ‘Aravaan’, ‘Tamilselvanum Thaniyar Anjalum’ for Courier Boy ‘Kalyan’ and ‘Okkadine’. He has been awarded five Filmfare South for ‘Oru Maalai’, ‘Arey Rey’, ‘Nijanga Nenena’, ‘Hasili Fisili’ and ‘Usure Poguthey’. Further on he is awarded Globus Style Awards, Mirchi Music Awards South, Mirchi Music Awards South – Best Male Playback Singer, Mirchi Music Awards South – Best Male Playback Singer, Amrita Film Awards, Vijay Music Awards, Asiavision Awards. Along with Best Male Playback Singer, Tamil Isaiaruvi Music Awards, CineMAA Awards, Nandi Award for Best Male Playback Singer, TSR TV9 National film awards and ITFA Best Male Playback Award.
