Plot

Rajbeer is a passionate businessman, who is extremely proud about his work. However, he misses the company of his friends, who got separated due to an unfortunate incident in the sport he loved the most. Will Rajbeer make amends, and restore his honor in kite flying?

Star Performances

For all the flaws of this film, Sameer Khan can and should be appreciated for his attempt to make a film around kite flying.

Apart from Sameer Khan, the cinematographers, as well as some of the ensemble cast deserve applause for their earnest efforts in making this movie worth watching.

Analysis

A movie on kite flying?

That’s something not many would go for. But Sameer Khan did, and the result is ‘Gabru Gang’.

Movies on indigenous sports are not new to Indian cinema. But very few dared to make a complete movie that revolves around kite flying. Yes, kites have been a part and parcel of many Bollywood movies, including ‘Kai Po Che’ and ‘ Raees Click to look into! >> Read More... ’. But the focus on kite flying was almost negligible.

Thankfully, that is not the case with this movie. The plot of this movie is a bit generic, but the efforts aren’t so. ‘Gabru Gang’ is a refreshing sports drama with the capacity to take risks like never before.

The movie revolves around a kite competition, and what value it holds for many of its participants. The visuals are above average for a movie of this scale, and the editing is good, if not outstanding.

Abhishek Duhan, who has made his presence in movies like ‘ Sultan Click to look into! >> Read More... ’, ‘ Pataakha Click to look into! >> Read More... ’ etc., has done a great job as the main protagonist Rajbeer. Avtar Gill marked his presence in a short but impactful role. Other actors also did justice to their roles.

However, the film is not completely flawless. There are some subplots that were completely irrelevant, and forcefully inserted into the narrative. Apart from that, the emotional angle in the second half was not so important, and could have been trimmed out.

Verdict

‘Gabru Gang’ is a movie that must not be missed by those, who are in search of something fresh. The movie is not without flaws, true. But the very fact that someone at least tried something fresh is commendable. Watch this if you want something new and refreshing!
