Plot

Santosh (played by Diganth), the main character of this story, has everything but "santhosh" (happiness) in his life. He lives his life being continuously tortured by his wife Sandhya (played by Siri Ravikumar Siri Ravikumar is an Indian film actress and model >> Read More... ), who he claims loves the maid more than him. She is rigid, uptight and doesn't let him party or go out with his friends, and screams at him if he comes back home late from work.

One fine day, when Sandhya has gone to visit her mother's house, Santosh attends the bachelor party of his friend Ashok ( Shine Shetty Shine Shetty is a Kannada film actor, performer, a >> Read More... ). There he meets his old friend Maddy (Yogesh) and PT Sir (Achyuth Kumar). The night flows along as the trio get drunk out of their minds. In their alcohol-ridden state, they impulsively end up taking a flight to Bangkok.

In Bangkok, Santosh is shocked to find out that his wife is cheating on him. With the help of his friends, he takes on the mission of exposing her and reclaiming his life.

Star Performance

This film boasts an incredibly talented star cast. Diganth, the lead, and Yogesh, who plays the role of Maddy, his woman-hating friend, are absolutely effortless with their comic timing and steal the show with their performance and humor.

Achyuth Kumar, as PT Sir, has also done a hilarious job. It seems as though this role was made for him.

Other actors, such as Balaji Manohar Balaji Manohar is an Indian-Actor. He mainly works >> Read More... and Prakash Thumminad, are only introduced post the interval of the film, yet deliver a memorable role and lift the film up to a whole new level.

Analysis

The film Bachelor Party may seem effortless, but truthfully speaking, comedy is a very difficult genre to write, much less master. In that aspect, the film feels as though it's tickling and forcing the viewers to laugh. The theme is stereotypical, misogynistic, and trying to make a mockery out of women.

The first half of the film is too slow. Although it picks up in the second half, the writing still comes across as stale and unfunny. The topic of the film in itself is a promising one, aiming to talk about men in unhappy marriages who are unable to speak up, yet the writing lets it down.

The film shows all of its female characters in a negative light, from Sandhya to Santosh's co-worker who gets promoted by providing sexual favors to the superiors as well as Maddy's ex. To add on to that, majority of the script is filled with derogatory statements about women contained as jokes. As a whole, this film just seems to bash women and call it a plot.

Sandhya's lines in the film are purposefully shown as dramatic and exaggerated, to make a mockery out of feminism. They show her as a feminist but in the most negative way possible.

The best, and perhaps the only good things about this film, are the actors and the technicalities. The cinematography is fun and catchy. The soundtrack, composed by Arjun Ramu Bio coming soon... >> Read More... , is vibey. But that ends the list of plus points that can be attributed to this film.

The plot of this film could have been a solid comedy if it weren't for the obvious misogyny and women-hating. The film had potential but fell flat on its face.

What's There?

  • Good performances

What's Not There?

  • Bad execution of the plot.
  • Misogynistic and stereotypical in nature.

Verdict

The film Bachelor Party is a poor attempt at making a comedy film. It may have seemed funny to some, but all in all it is just a film coated in patriarchy and unable to escape.
