Plot

Based on real events in the Thakamany village in Kerala, Thankamani deals with the incident in 1986, where a severe altercation arises between bus owners and locals, leading to tragic events.

Analysis

Thankamani is a powerful movie. It's not a profound movie that delivers a strong message, nor is it an overly thought out and intelligent film, but it handles a true-to-life recreation of actual events. The movie thoughtfully handles this sensitive issue as creatively and realistically as possible.. It is intended as a cautionary tale against the evils of society and provides a sad insight into how the inhuman behaviour adopted by individuals can turn out to be, not as mere entertainment. The cast performances are decent, with Dileep playing the role of Abel Joshua Matthew, a socially just individual, favorably. It's the kind of movie that performs more like a documentary than commercial entertainment, but in a good way.
