Grey’s Anatomy Season 9 began on 27 September 2012, and it had 24 episodes, ending on 16 May 2013. It used to be telecast on ABC (American Broadcasting Company). It had the same cast as previous seasons. It takes the story forward from the previous season. Flashback of the aftermath of the plane crash is shown. Meredith accepts everything and decides to move on, while Derek is scared due to his hand so he decides to teach. Owen’s care helps Cristina to recover. Arizona’s leg gets more infected so Callie has to amputate it which makes Arizona bitter towards her and Mark goes into a coma. Arizona, Derek, Meredith, Cristina, and Callie receive a large amount of money from plane’s manufacturer as a settlement, but Derek decides to not accept it after seeing the crashed and convinces others also.

Meredith stops discussing her cases with Derek after realizing that he might never do surgery again to keep his spirits high. While Arizona is getting a prosthetic leg, Callie and Alex face consequences of their decision to amputate. April and Jackson continue to sleep together, while Cristina sleeps with Parker until she realizes he is doing it to force Thomas to retire. Meredith has to manage both parenting and work as Derek has a lecture in Boston. Dr Thomas dies during a surgery so Cristina returns to Seattle. Alex offers Meredith to sell her mother’s house, while Callie feels guilty about Derek’s hand surgery. The plane crash’s victims realize that legal team is giving their settlement deal to Owen and hospital.

Arizona returns, while Owens feels guilty about the crash as he switched the hospital’s airline before the crash because of budget cuts. April and Jackson break up. Cristina realizes her feelings for Owen, but he demands divorce before her confession. Meredith tells Derek about her pregnancy but does not want anyone else to know. A case makes Jo confess to Alex that she was abandoned as an infant. Heather finds out about Meredith’s pregnancy, while Derek’s sister comes to donate a nerve to Derek. Cristina and Owen decide to save their relationship. On their way to Bailey’s wedding, Richard comforts her as she becomes nervous, but they return to the hospital as Adele is in the ER which makes everyone at the wedding wonder that where she is. Meredith and Bailey are successful in operating Adele after which Bailey goes to her wedding, but Richard reveals that Adele died from heart attack after the marriage.

Hospital is found guilty of the plane crash and each survivor is given $15 million. Callie throws a dinner party in which Meredith reveals her pregnancy, while Derek starts playing ping-pong to train his hand after surgery. Richard remains withdrawn after his wife’s death which makes everyone worried. Owen is worried as insurance company refuses to pay compensation and if the hospital will pay, it will go bankrupt so a financial advisor is hired who advises to shut down ER and also install cameras in hospital but later it is revealed that she did that to sell the hospital. Derek finally performs surgery, and Owen helps Arizona with phantom leg syndrome. Callie and Richard go to another hospital owned by Pegasus and finds out discouraging things about their management practices.

Plane victims discuss to buy the hospital, while Derek becomes the face of the hospital. They stop Pegasus to buy the hospital but Cahill convinces Pegasus to resubmit their bid. They all go to meet an investor but due to lack of management experience, they take Richard and Owen on board but second meeting also goes poorly. Heather learns that Pegasus will fire entire staff so Jackson thinks to move to Boston. Catherine offers Avery Foundation’s investment to be used after discussing with Richard but only if Jackson is on the Board. Owen quits as Chief, making things worse, and Jackson suggests to rename the hospital as “Grey-Sloan Memorial Hospital” and reopen the ER. Derek and Meredith update their wills and healthcare directives when she tests positive for genetic markers of Alzheimer.

CDC comes to investigate post-operation infections in Bailey’s patients in which only Jackson does not take her side so she feels betrayed. Meredith wants Cristina to be there in her labour, Matthew asks April for a second chance, and Alex admits that he loves Jo to Cristina. Alex avoids Jo but later helps her when she is physically abused by her boyfriend. Matthew proposes April, and Ethan’s father wakes up crushing Owen’s dreams to adopt him. Storm comes at the hospital which results in power to go out, and Meredith goes in labour. Baby is born healthy but her earlier fall causes abdominal bleeding. April doubts her engagement with Matthew after thinking that Jackson died in a bus explosion. Alex and Jo start a relationship, while Callie learns about Arizona’s encounter with Boswell and Cristina breaks up with Owen. Richard is electrocuted due to water in the basement while trying to fix the emergency generators.
