House Husbands is an Australian Dramedy series that reverses the traditional gender roles assigned by society and puts forth four men in the spotlight who choose to look after their kids instead of working. The show also focused on their extended family and friends. The storyline of this hit show follows four men as they struggle to raise their kids while their partner goes to work. Lewis Crabb, a very successful builder, who chooses to become a stay-at-home dad to Matilda while his partner Gemma works at the local hospital as a nurse. Another couple, Mark and Abi face difficulty in looking after their child as they both have jobs. To battle this problem, Mark decides to leave his job and stays at home with his child. Abi’s brother Kane, who is in a relationship with Tom, helps his partner in raising his niece. Kane and Tom are also the first-ever depictions of a Gay couple on the Australian television. The last man is a retired former footballer who has broken up with the mother of his three children and hence is raising the kids while staying at home.
The show through these four men explored the difficulties of having a child and the changing landscape of Gender roles predetermined by the society. The show was directed by Geoff Bennett in collaboration with a few other creators. It was produced by Nine networks and started airing on the channel from 2 September in the year 2012. It soon overtook other shows and became one of the most-watched Australian shows, resulting in the show winning awards and accolades around the country. Owing to its huge success, the Nine network revived the show for a second season on 23 September 2012 which also received huge accolades from the audience. The channel seeing the success of the show, went on running the show for three more seasons resulting in five seasons altogether.
