Planet Earth is a British television serial broadcasted on BBC One. Premiered on 5 March 2006, it is the most expensive nature documentary series ever made. It is a documentary based on nature. It has eleven episodes with a run-time of one hour. The initial fifty minutes of the episode follows a ten minute of behind the scenes clip.

The part which precedes presents the audience with a tape that shows the challenges faced while filming the series. It is aired on Sundays at 9 pm and the repeats are telecasted on the next Saturday in the early evening on BBC two. After the huge success of The Blue Planet, a series made in the world of ocean, the executive producer decided to make The Planet Earth, and this is how the idea was born. The first episode is about the journey around the globe where he reveals how different climatic conditions affect the people and animals living there, there food and living habitats.

Rarely found animals like Polar bears, Amur leopard, African hunting dogs, etc. were shown. The high definition quality makes it worth watching as it gives you an exciting experience. The second episode was all about mountains. It bestows you an on view of different mountains like the Alpines which are always snow covered, or the Rockies and Andes. Ethiopia’s Erta Ale was introduced to be the longest erupting volcano i.e. more than 100 years. The third segment describes different rivers and their course of flow. The episode starts with an introduction of Venezuela's Tepui which is tropical based and therefore with plenty of rainfall.

It also describes the inhabitants of that area which settled on the bank of the river. Moreover, additional information on Colorado River, the Great Canyon, Angel Falls also depicted in the show. The next topic that it touches is Caves. They disclose facts about various caves present in different corners of the world. Discussion on Mexico’s Cave of Swallows, the deepest pit cave of the world, Borneo’s Deer Cave and Gomantong were shown on the show. The fifth episode was about the dangers that our mother Earth is facing and harsh conditions that covers one-third part of it.

The show make us aware of the fact that Siberian winds that flow, reaches the Mongolia desert to make them unbearable with extreme temperatures. The Sahara desert and dust storms are clipped along with the opening remarks on different animals like African elephants, red kangaroo, lions, and fennec fox. This series targeted audience of all age groups and especially those who took inspiration from it. The spectacular views of the magnificent natural resources leave us awestruck. People expect more shows of these types which are informative and educational.
