The Middle Season 7 started on 23 September 2015 on ABC. Hecks has to drop Sue and Axl at college but Axl doesn’t want to go with them while Sue insists as they had dropped Axl two years ago. Frankie is unable to cry while dropping off Sue and later realizes that it is because she knows Sue will handle everything, and Mike teaches Sue important life lessons. Brick begins his eighth grade and is confused about what does next level mean when Cindy tells him to take their relationship to the next level. Sue texts Frankie all the time as she is lonely without her roommate, and because of some things, Sue starts texting Mike but things get worse when her roommate arrives. Brick is creeped when his protector at school starts following him, and Axl invites Sue for pizza and she is surprised to know that he also missed home in the beginning. Frankie and Mike have dinner with Norwoods where Mike wears Hawaiian shirt instead of his favoured ones which brings out his new personality as he also purchases a motorcycle.

Brick realizes that now he is the only one left to do chores and ends up ruining one side of the bath’s wall. Sue tells Devin that Axl loves her and will marry her which makes her to have a break-up with Axl so Axl doesn’t even let Sue talk to him after accusing her. Sue later sings a song to convince Devin that Axl doesn’t love her so she can reconcile with him. Mike helps Rusty in his new business which Frankie fears to be a failure. Sue returns and Brad learns that she has to sleep in a car as Holly’s boyfriend is always in the room so they make a plan which fails and later Sue decides to talk to her RA. Axl returns and tries to convince his parents that he can ride the new bike, and Brick is glad with their return and asks for their help. Mike is upset so Frankie calls Reverend to find the reason which turns out to be the increasing age of Frankie as their lives are nearing the end. Sue takes Brick for a tour of campus of East Indiana but loses him when she meets Logan and tells Brick to go to the library but in order to find him, she loses Logan. When Axl and Hutch go to complain to the landlord about the house’s condition, they find that he is a fake one and the real one removes them so they along with Kenny move into Heck’s house.

On Halloween, Sue returns so Frankie decides to celebrate it together and take revenge from Rita Glossner and Axl. Kenny and Hutch are scared from a person dressed up as Death and leave the house which later turns out to be Cindy. Because of an incident, Brick feels himself to be a time traveller. Orson High’s Homecoming tailgate party and homecoming cornhole tournament occur where things don’t go as members of the Heck family had planned. When Frankie finds that her dentist’s office will remain closed through the end of the year, she decides to do holiday work at the Heritage Village. Sue returns to Spundsy’s in hope to meet Logan but learns that he went to visit his family. Axl meets his high school friends including Sean at the bar and starts crying about his current condition. Due to a power outage, Mike teaches Brick to play poker in which they are later joined in by Frankie, Sue and Axl as they return home. Frankie is forced to go to a convention so she convinces Mike to come along as the expenses are covered and in excitement to see their room, they use the room’s mini-bar, room service, movies but they are shocked to learn that extras are not covered under the expenses.

Axl starts staying in Sue’s dorm room as she has an extra bed which annoys her but later she is happy as she is noticed by others due to Axl’s popularity who comes to her room. Sue misses her final exams and vomits on her professor after partying with Axl and some visiting students. Christmas Eve starts well for the family but it turns into a disaster when accidentally Sue deletes the family’s seven years worth of pictures which makes Frankie to break down as she never backed up them. Sue becomes friends with Lexie in process of getting rejected. Brick goes shopping alone so Frankie feels useless, and Axl interviews for internships & also teaches Mike to use social media for his new diaper business. Axl’s first day at Little Betty as an intern doesn’t go as planned, and Frankie is unhappy to see changes after returning to Smile Sensations so Mike says that both Axl and Frankie are natural-born complainers. Cindy wants Mike to tell Brick that she kissed another guy, and Sue is challenged by her professor who feel she can be a more critical thinker.

Mike asks Brick and Axl’s help for Frankie’s 50th birthday belated party but Coach Tink detains Brick, and Sue becomes a laughing stock at college. Brick replaces Cindy and Troy with Frankie and Brad as he has to create a short video for a school project. Sue learns that Logan is thinking to become a priest when they reconnect and the photos which were deleted on Christmas come back. Sue tries to get over Logan, and Hutch and Axl move in a motor house but they realize that they can park it in very few places legally. Frankie showers her affection when Sue and Axl’s wisdom teeth get removed. Mike tries to stop Marlene from filing a lawsuit when Rusty tells him that she was behind the idea of their diaper business. Axl regrets to confess his love for Sue which Brick recorded, and Mike takes the family for a vacation after success in business but Frankie wants Donahues to come along. During the vacations, the youngest Donahue blackmails Frankie, and Sue announces her summer job at Dollywood along with Brad. Cindy’s parents ask for a loan from Hecks during dinner, and Sue has a crush on her college professor.

Frankie is insulted by Sue and her boyfriend, Jeremy, when she visits Sue at college. Meanwhile, Mike tries to stop Axl from quitting football. Frankie is happy as Mike’s co-workers built her a lanai, but she is disturbed by her neighbours. Sue and Lexi get the perfect room on dorm lottery day but they end up in the worst room after learning that the current resident needs the room more than them. Axl and Hutch start a new business, and Brick asks Mike to tell his co-workers to build a bookshelf and when Mike denies, he tells him the reason of their work to be is his position. Frankie’s new plan to celebrate previously cancelled Mother’s Day results in chaos at home. Sue and Axl refuse to follow curfew when they return for summer vacation so Frankie comes up with an idea, and Brick’s middle school graduation nears. Sue’s first day at Dollywood and Brick’s graduation is on the same day, and Axl is mocked by a 10-year-old carbon copy of himself at his job as a country club day camp-counsellor.
