Castle series is an American crime show, merging drama, comedy and thriller into one. It aired on ABC, produced by Beacon Pictures and ABC Studios. Castle has killed off the main character of his famous novel and is experiencing a creative slowdown in his writing. NYPD brings him in for questioning and assisting in a murder copied same to same from one of his novels. He applies his understanding of criminal behaviour and his books to solve the case with Detective Kate. He found his inspiration and muse in Detective Kate and got determined to use Beckett as his muse for his next book series 'Nikki Heat'.

Using his connection with the Mayor, he is now allowed to work with her to research the new character. Though a fan of Castle’s work, Detective Kate Beckett is annoyed with this arrangement. She doesn’t wish to cooperate with him, but as they solve cases together with her tactics and Castle’s creative ideas, she realises that he is a useful resource in her team’s investigation. Each episode features a murder investigation to be solved. In season 1, Castle and Beckett investigate various cases. The theme of the cases were different from each other ranging from a nanny found dead inside a laundry-room dryer to the death of a teenager from a wealthy family whose friends behave suspiciously; from the assassinations of a famous city councilman to a woman found frozen at a construction site; from a ritualistic killing to a socialite savagely killed during a home invasion; from a woman found submerged in a bathtub full of motor oil to a plastic surgeon found murdered in his car.

In the last episode, Castle is seen looking into the death of Beckett’s mother Johanna, getting the unexpected answer. This show has a mixture of all the genres - be it drama, comedy, crime show, thriller or romance. Both the lead actors got nominated for Satellite Awards for Best Actor and Best Actress for season one.
