Michael and Holly eventually break up when they are faced with obstacles of Holly’s transfer although Michael does manage to take care of it. Eventually, both Dwight and Andy find out that Angela has been sleeping with both of them and both dump her. Jim and Pam are reunited after she finishes her course. The complex relationships of the employees make the season all the more hilarious. Beside convoluted love stories, season 5 features exciting and challenging tasks for the employees at work. And the way the employees fulfil these tasks for the goodwill of the office is indeed amusing and entertaining.

Their first task is to lose weight for their branch to win extra holidays. It’s hilarious how the employees cope with their weight loss mission. While some starve themselves, others cannot resist, and their weight loss is almost always nullified. Calling himself Willy Wonka, Michael embarks on the Golden Ticket mission to promote business only to find himself in trouble when a huge company gets all the discount tickets. With the entry of the new vice president, Charles Miner, the office is in a stir. The tensions that his sternness causes in the office test Michael’s limits when he finally decides to quit the office. Michael sets out to establish his own business with the help of other employees, Pam, Ryan and Vikram. There is a humorous rivalry between Michael and Dwight who try to steal each other’s clients.

Michael’s infant business is bound to fail, but they manage to cover up their failures, which results in their buyout restoring Michael’s previous position while Pam and Ryan are offered sales jobs. Michael opens a café-disco at the office to help employees de-stress where everyone joins in for a dance-off. The season ends with a company picnic where Michael and Holly are reunited, but Michael does not succeed in revealing his feelings for her. Jim and Pam learn that Pam is pregnant. With this happy news for the couple, the season that features challenging yet entertaining missions for the employees and hilarious rocky relationships comes to an end.
