The second season of the HBO supernatural drama contains 12 episodes. It was first aired on 12 June 2009. The show is somewhat based on CharlaineHarris’ young adult book series, The Southern Vampire Mysteries. The gular cast members returned for this season, including the characters of the telepathic protagonist, Sookie Stack house and Bill Compton, her vampire lover, who is different from most other vampires as he does not hate the humans. The plot of the second installment follows the disappearing (kidnapping) of the two-thousand—year old vampire, Godric, who is the Sheriff of Area 9.

He is believed to be taken by the Fellowship of the Sun. Eric Northman requests Bill and Sookie to help him find Godric with their supernatural abilities. He believes that the Fellowship of the Sun has kidnapped him because it is a church made for the sole purpose of the eradication of vampires from the world. In their quest to solve the mystery of the disappeared vampire, they come across Jason – Sookie’s brother who is now a member of the Fellowship of the Sun. Another sub-plot is the role of Maryann Forrester, a supernatural being who wants to exert total control over the town of Bon Temps.

She is also a part of Sam Merlotte’ss past and knows him for what he is – a shape-shifter. As the season draws to an end, she grows more and more powerful and succeeds in gaining control over the people. Later in the season, Andy who initially thought that Sookie had killed Miss Jeanette, discovers that he was wrong and is eventually stripped off from his position as a police officer. He soon discovers that the real killer is Eggs, who himself was not entirely to blame as he was under the influence of Maryann at that time.

The season ends with the introduction of a guest cast member, Evan Rachel Wood Evan Rachel Wood was born in North Carolina, U.S.A >> Read More... who is playing the role of the Vampire Queen of Louisiana. The very last scene of the season centres around Bill and Sookie. Bill proposes to her, and while he is waiting for her reply alone, he is kidnapped by some unknown people. The season received positive reviews from critics who praised the show for its cinematography, gore and violence. It was also appreciated for bringing rich themes and content to a common genre show.
