Jhansi Ki rani is a historical drama based on the life of Rani Laxmi Bai, the queen of Jhansi. It takes the viewers through the life of the great queen, from her early days as a child to her demise against the British rule in the historic battle of Jhansi. The show aired on Zee TV and first premiered on 18 August 2009, running until 19 June 2011.

The story begins showing Laxmi Bai at the age of 14 living with her father and learning tactics of war and weaponry by Tatya Tope. From an early life, Laxmi Bai despised the British rule in India and wanted to throw them out of the country. Initially, she takes the name and face of Kranti Guru and fights against the British while being undercover.

She is then married to the Maharaja of Jhansi at a very young age but, still continues to act as Kranti Guru. Later, the Maharaja is killed by the British and now elder as the Queen of Jhansi, she plans a war against the English rule. The story continues from here on and ends at the historic battle of Jhansi where she lost her life.

It is a historical Hindi drama first aired on Zee TV (2009 to 2011), set during the British Rule in India. It is a story of the Queen of Jhansi Maharani Lakshmi Bai, and how she stood by the people. After marrying the King of Jhansi, Gangadhar Tilak, she became the Queen. This drama unfolds the struggle of Lakshmi Bai or Manikarnika (as she is popularly known as) with the British Army to stop them from capturing Jhansi.

The story begins with the childhood of Manu. Her father was a peer in the court of Peshwa Bajirao II and Nana Saheb. Manikarnika is married to Gangadhar Rao Niwalkar, the Maharaja of Jhansi. Her name is changed to Lakshmi Bai after the marriage, and little did she know her life too. In her childhood, she learned the art of swordsmanship so that she could protect herself in any war type of condition. Her personality had an essence of braveness and boldness. Later, she stood as the pillar of Jhansi and tried protecting it from the Britishers.

The actual story starts after the marriage of Lakshmi Bai when she bravely and fiercely revolts against the Britishers. One day, when she saw them mistreating the villagers, she persuaded them to fight. From there, she became the Enemy in the eyes of the Britishers, and the biggest force against conquering Jhansi. In her journey, she met several people, both good and bad. She had a son named Damodar Rao, whom she handover to Tatya Rope at the end, taking on the Britishers for one final time. She gave her life fighting for people and the country.
