The theme of this serial is that the young woman striving hard for the betterment and success of her father, a farmer. Agriculture is the backbone of India. Farming is getting worse every day with a change in season. Many farmers attempt suicide for being not able to repay their loans. Every farmer almost has to gamble with the monsoon. This drama showcases the above as difficulties faced by the farmers.

Purvai Ek Nayi Aasha is a Hindi serial broadcast on the DD Kisan channel under the Doordarshan channel program. This serial tells the story of a girl named Purvai. Purvai has struggled a lot to reach college. She is now studying hard to pass her college and she always comes first in her class. Purvai lives with her father, grandmother, and her step-mother. Her step-mother always insults her and she is suspicious that Purvai would go out of the family's hands due to this college. Purvai's grandmother and father always support her. Purvai dreams of the day when she would make her father proud. Purvai's father has sacrificed his own needs to provide his daughter a good education.

Purvai does not have enough money even reach college. In her college, Purvaicompetes with Ranveer as he always comes second in class because of Purvai. Purvaiis getting stalked by a man named Arjun. Arjun belongs to a rich family of ministers. His father is an MLA. Arjun tries talking to Purvai by stalking her in a jeep along with his thugs. But he ends up making Purvai cry as she is afraid of him. He says he has to find a permanent way to make Purvai marry him. Purvai has made it clear from the start that she wants to study and cannot be involved in such stuff. But Arjun approaches the chief of Purvai's village to help him fix his marriage permanently with Purvai's family, without her consent. So the chief comes to Purvai's father to asks for Purvai's hand in marriage. But Arjun has already been married once.

Purvai's father is not agreeing but the chief forces them to agree. Only Purvai's step-mom is happy as she considers this good riddance of Purvai. Purvai's father goes to the chief to refuse the marriage proposal as Purvai says no. But they get attacked. The chief let them go when Purvai attacks the goons who attacked her father. But the chief swears to make their life miserable. He calls the MLA to intervene the matter. They plan together to make Purvai's life miserable and they cancel her father's food card. Even the farmers and laborers living around Purvai's family have to suffer.

Finally,Purvai gives in Arjun's demands and decides to marry him. She cannot bear to see her family in such conditions because of the chief. Her father advises her to think again about her dreams. He gives her the option to go to the police station. When Purvai's family arrives at the station, they get humiliated and thrown out of the station. Purvai's grandmother suffers a heart attack and no one in the village helps them. Finally, upon reaching the hospital, Purvai meets Arjun's sister. Purvai wants to do something for the farmers of her village. She has already started working upon the crops research.
